Lose Weight Naturally By Adopting An Alkaline Based Fruit Diet

I was never the person to diet. Sure, I did not eat certain foods, but that was because I never enjoyed them growing up. I also felt that many of the foods I disliked had nothing to do with being health conscious. That was until I started having health issue, and I decided to change how I eat. Not only did I start eating foods that would help me maintain a healthy weight, but I started eating more alkaline foods which are better for the body.

Fruits In The Morning:

Waking up to a slice of watermelon is one of the best ways to start your morning. Eating fruit for breakfast will not only help you think clearer, it will help you lose weight and stimulate the digestive tract to energize the body. Eating a clean and light breakfast in the morning is a great way to transition the body from a fasting state to an eating state.

Several Reasons Why You Should Start Eating Fruit For Breakfast:

1. Enhances The Detoxification Phase

Between 7 and 11am, the body is going through the heaviest phase of detoxification. Eating fruit will help contribute healing energy to this detoxification process

2. Stimulates the Digestive Tract

Eating fruit for breakfast infuses the body with beneficial enzymes, fiber and probiotics that help stimulate digestive juices in the stomach and, push out old waste matter from the day before. Fruit fiber cleans the colon like a broom, leaving you feeling light and refreshed.

3. Wakes Up The Body

Natural fruit sugars are just the thing the body needs upon waking up. Instead of reaching for your coffee, try making a coffee replacement smoothie that will help keep the brain sharp and energized. Remember, the brain runs off glucose so if you want to stay focused throughout the day, eat a nice big water-dense fruit meal for breakfast!

4. Lose Weight

Fruit provides the body with quality nutrition and, also help release excess toxins by pushing out old waste matter from the intestines. Eating plenty of fruit in the morning (and throughout the rest of the day) gets rid of excess toxicity and waste storage. This in turn helps with your body’s natural weight loss process. You can lose weight naturally by eating the right foods that will jump start the process.

5. Creates An Alkaline Environment For The Body

The first thing people think when they eat fruit is that it is too acidic which is not true. Lemons are actually one of the most alkaline fruits on the planet. They may be acidic in form but, once they reach the stomach the minerals (like potassium and sodium) disassociate to make it alkaline (via a variety of metabolic processes). All fruit is alkaline, so make sure you eat plenty of fruit in the morning if you normally eat a standardized diet.

There are numerous diet plans out there. The key to weight management is adopting a healthy diet that accommodates your dietary needs. Losing weight naturally is always the best way to go. You just have to find out which natural diet works for you.

Why You Should Ditch the Scale and Love Your Body

It’s Just a Number:

We’ve all been there. Stepping on the scale and holding our breath. Closing our eyes to delay, just for a moment, the number that awaits us. If you’re like me, you’ve tried every trick to make that dastardly old scale behave a little more nicely. You’ve shed shoes, pants, earrings, headbands-you’d take out your fillings if you could!

And that does not even include all of the hard work that preceded this moment: the endless hours of exercise. The gallons upon gallons of water. The near starvation and the gagging down of all these pills, potions, and magic elixirs that promise instant and enduring results. By the time we reach the scale, we’re more likely to feel like crawling than walking-such is what we put ourselves through in the pursuit of the thin and perfect’ body.

But why are we so obsessed with a few measly numbers on a bathroom scale? Why does this one little household item have so much power over us, and how we feel about ourselves? The simple fact is that the number on the bathroom scale reflects very little on our overall physical health. And it says far less about our beauty. Our uniqueness. Our worth as human beings.

So instead of being taunted by the tyranny of the scale, let’s focus on the things that really mean something, the things that really matter. Let’s learn to treat our bodies right and recognize their beauty-at any weight.

Stopping the Scale Obsession:

Anyone who has ever dieted-and that means pretty much anyone who has ever lived in the US in the last 100 years-knows how quickly an obsession with the scale can develop. Those first few lost pounds are like a drug. They intoxicate. They infuse you with a sense of accomplishment. Of triumph.

But that victory is all too often short-lived. Soon the numbers start dropping gradually. Than they stop dropping at all and as the weight loss slows, the obsession with the scale grows. You may find yourself checking multiple times a day-maybe even multiple times an hour.

You will find that your mood and your self-image are increasingly tied to the numbers that greet you on the scale. If the drop has been sufficient, your day is made and your self-esteem grows. If the drop is not what you expected, than you are a failure. You have not worked hard enough. You did not want it enough. You are not good enough.

This is a vicious and tremendously unhealthy cycle, one that often leads not only to emotional overeating in the desperate attempt to gain some kind of solace, but one which also produces stress-and stress, as we know, causes chemicals such as cortisol to be released into the body. These stress chemicals also promote the development-and the retention-of fat, especially fat around the dreaded midsection.

When you become scale-obsessed, you’re basically setting yourself up for failure, for a self-destructive cycle of emotional highs and lows that will almost inevitably lead to weight gain. Scales Do Not Reflect Weight Loss Accurately An important issue to bear in mind is that the number on the scale does not actually reflect fat loss. In fact, most of the weight lost in the first stages of dieting is water loss. The reductions in salt and carbohydrate intake which often accompany dieting lead to very rapid loss of fluid retention. But the human body simply cannot shed fat that quickly.

So the scale gives you a false sense of accomplishment in the early days of dieting, which than makes you so desperate to duplicate that “success’ that you and up making demands of your body that it cannot possibly fulfill. After all, the body can only lose so much water before the organs begin to fail completely. And true weight loss, by which we mean true fat loss, can only be accomplished gradually. This is a weight loss I best measured in inches, not in pounds.

Metabolism Matters:

One of the most frustrating aspects of dieting is that what works like a charm for one person may not work at all for another. There are few things more upsetting than watching your fiends and loved ones achieve amazing results, when you are working so hard and getting little or nothing in return.

It’s all too easy in cases like this to forget that no two people have the exact same metabolism. Each person metabolizes calories, nutrients, and energy differently and a myriad of factors can shape how our metabolism functions. Everything from age to gender to lifestyle to overall health can have an impact on our body’s metabolism.

However, if all we are thinking about is the number on the scale, then we risk forgetting the vital role that metabolism plays in the success or failure of our diet regimen. Rather than obsessing on a number, it is far better to explore how our body is functioning and why. Metabolism is a key component in this.

If what is working for others in your age group isn’t working for you, than it may be worth while to visit your doctor. You may learn that you have a vitamin deficiency, or a problem with your thyroid function, or some other issue that is affecting your metabolism, causing weight gain through no fault of your own.

The Goal of Better Health:

Recognizing the role of metabolism in weight loss is the first step on the road to better health. The reason for this is simple, you’re now beginning to appreciate the complexity-and the true miracle-that your body is. Your body is far more sophisticated than three measly numbers on a scale. It deserves far greater respect than being distilled down to such a nothingness.

When you begin to disassociate your weight from your self-worth, than it makes it easier to invest in treating your body right, no matter what effect that new, healthier regime might have on your weight.

In fact, a number of components of a good health and fitness program can actually lead to an increase in weight, but that does not mean that your health is deteriorating or that fat loss is not occurring. The opposite could actually be true, you may be burning fat but gaining muscle, which is denser than adipose (fat) tissue and therefore weight more.

So What Do You Do Once You Ditch the Scale?

Eat Right, Once you stop worrying about the numbers on the scale, you can also start worrying less about the pesky issue of calories. Instead, you get to focus on more important matters when it comes to your food, such as its nutrient content.

If you are eating right, your principal concern should be that your food is whole, rich in the micro nutrients and macro nutrients your body needs to perform at its peak. This also means eating lots of healthy fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates-things which calorie and weight-conscious dieters may shy away from but which are essential to building, and maintaining, a healthy body.

Find a Good Supplement:

It’s nearly impossible to consume all of the nutrients the body needs in a single day simply through food intake alone. This is where turning to a good nutrition supplement can be a great idea. There are a number of safe and affordable nutrition supplements on the market today which can help to provide you with the nutrients you need to build muscle and loss fat.

The important thing to remember when you begin using nutrition supplements is that you may not actually lose weight with some of these, but that does not mean you are failing in your health regimen. In fact, you are probably growing stronger, healthier, leaner, and more toned. This improved performance and increased sense of wellness are far better indicators of your body’s overall health than any number on the scale could ever be-and when you learn to value yourself, you will learn that health is a much greater gift than some arbitrary weight that the beauty industry claims you need to be.

Get Out and Exercise:

To be healthy, you not only have to eat right and take in the proper nutrients. You also have to be physically active. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend 10 hours a day in the gym, tortured by painful workouts that you hate from beginning to end.

No, it’s far better to find a physical activity that you love, one that you feel excited about, one you can’t wait to get out and do. Maybe it’s salsa dancing. Maybe it’s biking in the mountains. Maybe it’s martial arts.

The most important thing is to get moving. Find the thing that makes your heart pump not only while you’re doing it, but even just in thinking about it. You will be more energetic, more passionate, and more content-all while reaping the muscle-building, fat-burning benefits of exercise (but happy, healthy, fun exercise!)

Get Rest:

Yes, you have to be active, but you also have to take time everyday for stillness. Whether you prefer to meditate or to pray, or simply to sit quietly by your window or beneath your favorite shade tree, the health benefits of stillness are virtually limitless. Taking the time to be quiet-to do nothing, to let the mind and body rest-improves focus, boosts mood, builds energy, and reduces those stress hormones we talked about earlier. You know-the ones that lead to weight gain and fat retention?

Get Social:

OK We’re born alone and we usually die alone. But that doesn’t mean that we have to be alone in between. In fact, studies are increasingly showing that the more social you are, the healthier you are Loneliness leads to depression, stress, and anxiety: three big players not only in ill health in general, but in weight gain and obesity in particular. An active social life, with lots of time spent with friends and family, increases the likelihood that you will be more physically active. You will also likely have more support and more motivation in your efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Get Involved:

It’s almost impossible to be weight and beauty obsessed when you get out of your own head and into helping others. Nothing feeds the soul like helping those in need. So volunteer Feed the homeless. Counsel abused women. Mentor at-risk children. When you see how many people are suffering-and when you recognize your own power to make a difference in this world-it really helps to put matters of weight and appearance into perspective.

You may even find yourself eating healthy and staying active not because it’s going to look great in the next selfie, but because it allows you to help more-because you have people around you who are depending on you. You have people in your life to stay healthy for, to live (and live well) for.

You are (NOT) What You Eat:

There’s no getting around it We live in a culture obsessed with youth and beauty. The explosion of social media and the 24/7 streaming of celebrity images has only magnified the pressure on women to live up to some false ideal of what is beautiful, of what is valuable, of what it is supposedly necessary for women to be. With the proliferation of mobile devices, we can’t even leave our homes to escape these images: we carry them around with us, day in and day out, on our cell phones and tablets.

It’s no wonder that we fall so easily into weight-loss obsession when we are inundated with wasp-waist teenagers bombarding us with beauty tips and informing us with the latest weight loss secrets. Of course, we all know that these images are not real. The photo editing tools available on every device now puts old school Photoshop to shame. Everyday women can readily subject their selfies to massive touch ups before releasing them to the world as their “true’ face, this does not even take into account the editing technologies used in the film and fashion industries.

We all know these images are false. We all know that Giselle and Gigi do not look like “Giselle” and “Gigi.” But that all too often does not decrease the power of these images over most women’s lives. The obsession with the scale all too readily becomes the one tangible thing by which we can measure how close-or how far-we are getting from this supposed “ideal” of female beauty.

Extreme Self(ie) Care:

We can break out of this cycle. We can move beyond the self-destructive pattern of trying to beat and badger our bodies into a mold that does not even exist in the real world. It is all a matter of what I like to call “extreme self(ie) care”. It means stepping away from the scale and into a way of living and thinking that recognizes and honors our bodies for the wonders of nature that they are, for the complex, powerful, irreplaceable temples in which we carry out the work of our heart and our souls.

You Landed That New Job! Now What?

Congratulations! Your long search is over, and you are ready to begin your new job. Ahhh •••• Now you can just relax. Right? Well, that depends on what you want.

Whether your search was only a brief one or you needed months to acquire the job, your focus has been on the job search. Actually performing in your new job will require a different mindset. You may view this situation as the answer to your dreams and the chance to contribute within an organization where you are deeply committed to the mission. The other side of the coin is that you accepted the job because you have been searching a long time and this was your first offer.

Regardless of the circumstances, it is wise to examine your new situation and how it fits into your career path. We begin with a multiple-choice exercise. At the end of every day, review your experience and answer this item.

This job is:

A good place for me to grow and develop for years.

An appropriate “launching pad” where I can learn and prepare to move on.

Not a good match for my skills and preferences.

Still a mystery to me.

Any one of these choices can be the right answer! Think critically to answer honestly. This continuous assessment will keep you fully conscious and ready to do whatever it takes to keep your career on track. Your answer may change from one day to the next. I would be very surprised if it didn’t! The important thing is that you use this exercise to focus your energy so that you can benefit yourself and your employer, providing the best value you have to offer.

What else can you do?

Have a plan (and follow it) to get acquainted with your co-workers, customers, and others who are involved in the organization’s business. Relationships are core to any work situation. You will be spending many hours with your co-workers and clients, and you want to nurture cordial and cooperative relationships with this new “family.”
Study the past, present, and future of your job. Read materials on file and ask questions to find out how it was done previously and why. Inquire about changes. Be willing to learn from the past before applying any great new ideas. This shows respect for tradition and for your colleagues.
Read the mission and vision statements of the organization. Keep them posted or stored where you can find them quickly.
Find out who has moved up in the organization and how they accomplished their success. Look for someone who can serve as your mentor. As soon as possible, start learning names and “who does what” so that you can function successfully within the organization’s structure. Write these down! Ask for advice and other information. Most people love to help and are pleased to be asked.
Keep your supervisor informed about what you are doing and seek feedback. Maintain a log of the tasks you have started or completed so that you will have a handy reference.
Be patient with yourself. You have entered a new environment, and it takes time to become acclimated.
Before you leave work each day, ask yourself, “What have I learned today?” If you record your answers, this can make a very interesting resource for you. It will help you to see patterns, understand the culture, and track your progress. This journal can also help you formulate the right questions to ask and to see new directions you can pursue in the organization.

Hotel Noise Case Study

Combining an indoor water park, arcade, and conference center with an exquisite 161-room lodge, The Tundra Lodge Resort and Waterpark seemingly had everything going for it on opening day. Just four blocks from the country’s newest pro stadium in a region famous for rabid football fans, many of whom travel long distances to attend games, The Tundra Lodge was perfectly situated to draw faraway fans and local families to its Lombardi Avenue address.

But then the complaints about room-to-room sound intrusion began. Melanie Novinska, the facility’s Managing Director of Engineering, remembers the impact the complaints over noise were having by the end of the first year of operation. “The cost of keeping people happy included discounts and certificates for people to try us again. “The sound transfer from one guestroom to another was unacceptable. Of course, when you first open any hotel property, business is slow. You don’t find the problems until you’re selling lots of rooms and guests are next to each other.” How bad was the actual performance of the resilient channel walls her original architect-builder designed-in? Before renovation began, the sound transmission of the old walls was measured. The best-performing walls were all of STC 37 and the worst yielded only an STC 34 rating-hardly above standard 5/8-inch drywall. Because the lodging business is so heavily impacted by word-of-mouth, Novinska estimates inadequate sound isolation in the original construction was causing some 50% of repeat business to evaporate. That’s a lot of revenue for any hotel to lose; As we had 160 rooms, this was a complete disaster. Something had to be done.

Novinska felt compelled to educate herself. “I read about a number of solutions on the internet and requested information. We chose to fix the problem using QuietRock, an internally damped soundproof drywall.” After receiving third-party validation from Patrick McCormick of Brandner Engineering about the proposed solution, contractor HJ Martin began the work of removing the now two-year-young drywall. While the new soundproof drywall could have simply been placed over the existing drywall, outlets needed to be moved as well, so it was decided to remove the drywall on the shared walls. The soundproof drywall was then used instead of the old RC/drywall wall. “With tape, texture and paint, we were able to complete about 6-8 rooms every 5 days”, Novinska recalls.

“Before we fixed it, the situation was really bad,” Jay Hussong of drywall contractor HJ Martin commented. “You could hear conversations right through the walls. After we were finished, we went back to measure the STC of the rooms and found they exceeded STC 50…we could clearly hear the difference.” “After fixing the rooms, the noise complaints stopped,” reported Novinska. “Our occupancy rates went up and the difference was amazing. This was the perfect solution for us. Factoring all the costs, including materials and labor, you’ll realize savings over the long term by addressing soundproofing upfront, she advised other building owners. “Start with the right products and properly position your outlets and any other openings on back-to-back guestrooms, and you’ll get quiet rooms.”

Top Ten Secrets to Saving Big Money in the Airline Flights

Do you know that some people travel around the country and abroad, for both business and pleasure, and save bundles of money in the process?

They do that by using little known ways of really taking advantage of the most popular form of transportation – airline flights.

They don’t rely on the ever-famous “airfare price-wars”. They don’t rely on their travel agents to save money while flying.

Certainly, you should not dismiss these two methods. The price-wars can work to your advantage. But depending on them too much is a big mistake.

1. Call the airlines.

Call the airlines between midnight and 1 a.m. Monday through Friday to get cheaper tickets.

Most people never realize that at midnight, airline agents revise and load new fares into their computers. The best fares are just after they have done the updating!

2. Check into other airports other than the main one you use.

Many major cities have two airports. Check into surrounding towns and cities so you can compare airfares. You may save hundreds of dollars on your flights.

3. The early bird catches the plane.

The earlier you book your flight the more you save. Most special fares have restrictions of 7 to 30 day advance purchase. Usually non-refundable but they can offer deep discounts.

On the other hand, there are “last minute” deals too. Visit smartliving.com to get emails for last minute deals.

4. Get out of town on Wednesday.

Mid-week travel is usually less expensive. If you leave on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and stay over a Saturday night, you can garner terrific savings compared to Friday through Monday when most people fly.

Start taking your vacations Wednesday-to-Wednesday or Tuesday-to-Tuesday. You’ll save a lot by choosing your departure and arrival dates this way!

5. Buying a one way or split ticket.

Let’s say you travel from Boston to Dallas. It may be cheaper to get two separate tickets. You could buy one ticket from Boston to Nashville and one from Nashville to Dallas.

It all depends on the connecting cities and your airlines hubs. Just tell your agent you are willing to travel out of other airports and connect using regional airports to save money.

6. Open wide.

You should look into what is called an “Open-Jaw” ticket. These are used when a traveler is arriving and departing from different cities.

One ticket is purchased to cover both cities. Check with your travel agent or airline representative to see if this trick is available instead of two one-way tickets. Compare the price of each.

7. An excellent online service http://www.sidestep.com

You enter destinations and dates and SideStep quickly searches a couple of dozen affiliated regional and international airlines to find the best rates.

8. “Code share”.

Ask your agent if this flight is a “code-share” flight. That means the same flight is offered by two different airlines. Just copy down the name of the other airline and check into what they are charging.

Only one of the airlines is actually operating the flight. The actual operator always offers this flight for less, so book with them.

9. Sign up for the airline newsletters.

From weekend getaways to international flight packages the newsletter saves you money on travel and doesn’t require that you constantly visit the airline website for the latest offering.

10. The airlines often slash their fares during sluggish travel times.

Scan your travel sections in the newspapers and talk to your agent about these low fares.

What Happens When You Do Not Work Out After A Bariatric Surgery?

Bariatric surgery is no quick fix. It is a commitment towards a healthier life that pays off if you play by the rules. However, even if you choose to get either gastric bypass or gastric sleeve bariatric surgery from an excellent surgeon, there are a few precautions and steps that you will have to take to ensure that you get the desired results.

In the first few months after the surgery, your path to weight loss is set only if you work-out on a daily basis and follow the instructed diet. Bariatric surgery leads to rapid weight loss. This leads to losing most of the fat from your body, along with a lot of muscle. Having a regular exercise schedule can help you build your muscle so that when you do lose the weight, you look fitter, and do not have as much saggy skin. Muscle also helps to gauge and control your metabolism.

Exercising after bariatric surgery is the safest and the most effective way in which you can maintain your lean body mass and also maintain your metabolism which will, in turn, help you lose more weight.

What happens when you do not exercise after bariatric surgery?
• The recovery time for the surgery prolongs.
• You are at a higher risk of developing any kind of post-operational complications.
• With no physical activity your stress level can increase.
• You will not lose weight in the right way.
• Maintaining weight will be difficult after the surgery.

A recent study that was carried out by the Obesity Journal found that of the 190 patients who underwent this surgery, 68% said that they were more physically active within a year after the procedure. This meant that they performed some other form of vigorous or moderate exercise after the surgery. It was also found that those who exercised regularly lost 13.2 more pounds on an average as compared to those who were inactive.

Lastly, it was also found that those who were more active showed fewer signs of anxiety and depression, and had a higher mental health score as compared to those who did not work-out.

Do You Make These Air Travel Mistakes?

You’re sitting at home thinking about tomorrow’s plane journey. Remember last time ? Remember how you felt when you arrived ? Aggravated, stressed, hot, tired, needing a couple of days to recover ? Did you make these mistakes ?

* Packed your luggage just before you left home.

Don’t pack your bags a half hour before leaving. You know those vital papers, that book you wanted to read, or even your passport will mysteriously disappear at the last minute. Always pack the night before, and you’ll find everything right there waiting !

* Arrived at the airport late.

There’s no worse way to start your journey than sitting in traffic a couple of miles from the airport, watching the minutes tick by. Leave early. Expect a lot of traffic and your journey will take extra time. Then you’ll arrive at the airport relaxed and near the front of the check-in line. If you get your first choice of seat you’ll feel even better !

* Didn’t prepare for the plane journey.

* Dehydrated – the air you breathe on a plane is very dry. If you want to avoid dehydration bring a bottle of water with you and sip on it during the journey.

* Air Sick – if you suffer from motion sickness, and many people do, you can take precautions before you get on the plane. It’s too late when you’ve already started to feel sick. Take a motion sickness drug before you get on the plane. Some can make you drowsy, but that’s good on a long flight !

* Teeshirt – airplanes can get quite cold, so always keep a jacket or sweatshirt nearby if you need them. Some airlines provide blankets, but don’t count on it.

* Arrive lost at your destination.

Okay, you’ve just landed at your destination airport, and got your luggage back. What do you do now ? No idea. Feel those stress levels rising again ! Before you travel, check out your destination on the internet. Airport 50 miles out of town ? In that case, you don’t want to use a taxi if you can avoid it. You should pre-plan your bus or train journey before you leave home.
